# The 3 Types of Jobs That Never Appear on LinkedIn

## LinkedIn is not the whole picture

LinkedIn has over 15 million active job listings at any given time. It's the largest job board in the world. But it's far from complete. Entire categories of jobs never make it to LinkedIn — and if you're only searching there, you're competing in the most crowded pool while missing opportunities elsewhere.

## 1. Direct career page postings

Many companies post jobs exclusively on their own career pages. This is especially common with:

- **Enterprise companies** using Workday — their ATS doesn't always syndicate to LinkedIn, or does so with a delay of days or weeks
- **Government contractors and regulated industries** — compliance requirements sometimes prevent external job board posting
- **Companies trying to reduce recruiter costs** — LinkedIn charges per job slot, so companies with many openings often post only on their own site

These roles appear on the company's Greenhouse, Lever, Workday, or Ashby career page — but never on LinkedIn. You'd only find them by visiting each company's site individually.

## 2. Internal-first postings

Many companies post roles internally before making them public. The gap can be anywhere from a few days to several weeks. By the time the job hits LinkedIn, the company may already have internal candidates in the pipeline.

However, these same roles often appear on the company's public career page earlier than on LinkedIn. The career page is the source of truth — LinkedIn is just a distribution channel that's sometimes delayed or skipped entirely.

## 3. Startup and early-stage roles

Startups with fewer than 50 employees often skip LinkedIn entirely. They post on:

- Their own career page (usually on Ashby, Lever, or Greenhouse)
- AngelList / Wellfound
- Y Combinator's Work at a Startup
- Industry-specific job boards

Paying for LinkedIn job slots doesn't make economic sense when you're hiring 1-2 people. These companies rely on their career page and network referrals.
