## Job description

OpenDor Media is looking for a Director of Finance and Controller to own the accounting and finance function of a global, mission-driven nonprofit with an operating budget of approximately $20 million and growing, with staff across the United States, Israel, the United Kingdom, and South Africa.

This role is perfect for someone looking to grow beyond the traditional Controller seat into a true leader and partner to division heads and the CFO. This is a very exciting time for ODM and the finance department as we have just completed a migration from QuickBooks Online to the IES ERP platform, modernized our accounts payable workflow in BILL.com, and are midway through a baseline global corporate governance and compliance review across all jurisdictions. The foundation has been built, and this role will be able to continue the building of the finance department into a well-oiled machine.

### Built for Growth!

ODM's CFO role is a part-time engagement, so this position carries more real ownership than the title usually implies. It is not a CFO role, and we want to be precise about the line.

This role owns outright: the general ledger and close, consolidated GAAP statements and the technical positions behind them, the internal control environment, day-to-day management of the audit and Form 990, non-U.S. accounting and compliance, the mechanics of the budget and forecast cycle, cash, AP and AR, the systems stack, and leadership over the finance team. This role will serve as the primary finance partner to several program divisions and act as the senior finance voice on day-to-day operating decisions.

The CFO retains: Board and Finance Committee ownership, the final budget and multi-year plan submitted for approval, investment and reserve strategy, institutional relationships and finance policy approval, and the finance voice in executive and donor strategy.

### The future!

We are hiring for the role as described, and we expect the first year to be spent doing it well. That said, the scope is deliberately built to expand. ODM is growing, the CFO seat is part-time, and the person who owns the close, the audit, and the control environment cleanly, while earning the trust of division heads and the Board, will be well positioned for broader financial leadership as the organization scales. We don't want to attach a title or a date to that, but we want to make sure we are transparent about the possibilities available to the right person.

### Accounting, close, and financial reporting

- Own the general ledger and chart of accounts across all entities and locations, including the integrity of all data flowing into the ERP from integrated systems and feeds.

- Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close calendar. Deliver a complete, reconciled close on a defined timetable, with final accountability for reported actual results.

- Prepare consolidated financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP for nonprofit organizations, with meaningful variance analysis against prior period, forecast, and budget.

- Own revenue recognition for contributions, grants, and earned revenue, including conditional versus unconditional contributions, donor restrictions, and release of restricted net assets.

- Prepare the recurring reporting package for the CEO, program and functional leaders, the Board, and other constituents, and stand behind the numbers in it. The CFO presents to the Board and Finance Committee; you join those meetings as needed.

### Global finance and multi-jurisdiction compliance

- Own accounting and reporting for all non-U.S. operations, working with local accounting providers, PEO and employer-of-record partners, and outside advisors.

- Manage intercompany activity, foreign currency translation, and the funding of foreign operations.

- Ensure timely local statutory filings, payroll tax, and indirect tax compliance (including Israeli VAT) in coordination with in-country advisors and legal counsel.

- Oversee U.S. and international payroll processing and the accurate recording of compensation, benefits, and related liabilities.

### Internal control, audit, and governance

- Own the internal control environment: design controls, document them, test them, and close the gaps. Maintain clear segregation of duties across approval, processing, payment, and reconciliation.

- Serve as the primary day-to-day liaison for the annual audit and the Form 990 and manage the external audit and tax firms to an on-time, clean result.

- Draft, maintain, and enforce finance policies; delegation of authority, contract signing authority, expense and travel, vendor onboarding, and related procedures. Policy approval sits with the CFO and, where required, the Board.

- Support the organization's governance and compliance work across jurisdictions, including implementation of recommendations from external compliance reviews.

### Planning, budgeting, and business partnering

- Run the annual budget and ongoing forecast cycle operationally — calendar, templates, division planning process, consolidation, and the budget-to-forecast bridge — with the CFO owning the final budget presented to the Board.

- Serve as the finance partner to assigned program divisions/functions, helping program leaders build defensible budgets, understand their actuals, and make better spending decisions.

- Build and maintain the supporting schedules behind the multi-year financial model, and analyze trends in revenue, controllable spending, and staffing costs.

### Treasury, cash, and investments

- Own operating cash management, day-to-day banking administration and access controls, accounts receivable, and the weekly cash and investment reporting cycle.

- Support the CFO on investment reporting, reserve monitoring, and Investment Policy Statement compliance.

### Team leadership and systems

- Lead and develop the finance and accounting team, currently including a senior staff accountant, a finance associate, and a customer service associate.

- Serve as the functional owner of the finance systems stack, banking platforms, and the workflow tools that feed them, and drive continued automation and process improvement.

- Build documentation and SOPs so the function does not depend on any one person's memory.

### Requirements

### Required

- 8+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including responsibility for a full close cycle and consolidated financial statements.

- Highly inquisitive, curious and focused on continuous process improvement.

- Deep working knowledge of U.S. GAAP, with direct experience applying nonprofit accounting standards (net asset classification, contribution revenue recognition, functional expense allocation).

- Experience in a multi-entity, multi-currency, or multi-country environment.

- Demonstrated ownership of an external audit and of an organization's internal control environment.

- Experience supervising and developing accounting staff.

- Strong ERP and systems fluency, and a genuine appetite for making processes cleaner and more automated.

- High proficiency with Excel and Google Workspace.

- Clear written and verbal communication - you can explain a technical accounting position to a program director or a board member without losing either of them.

- Sound judgment, discretion, and comfort operating with a high degree of autonomy in a lean, fast-moving organization.

### Preferred

- CPA and or MBA with a strong accounting background

- Nonprofit sector experience, ideally in an organization of comparable size and complexity.

- Knowledge of payroll processes, VAT, and other elements/requirements of cross-border operations.

- Experience implementing or optimizing an ERP or AP automation platform.

- Familiarity with Form 990 and nonprofit governance practice.
