### Senior Backend Engineer

### Employment Type: Employment contract

We're looking for a Senior Backend Engineer with deep PHP expertise and strong Node.js skills to join the Enterprise API and Platform API Team as we modernize and scale CreatorIQ's backend systems. This is a new, hands-on role focused on evolving a large PHP monolith into modular, service-oriented components while raising the bar for code quality, testing, and reliability. You'll work in a remote-first, globally distributed team, partnering closely with product, platform, and engineering colleagues, and your technical ownership and architectural thinking will directly shape how our platform scales.

### In this role, you’ll get to:

- Develop a deep understanding of our existing PHP monolithic codebase and progressively extract it into modular, service-oriented components.

- Design, build, and maintain scalable, testable, and reusable backend services in PHP and Node.js.

- Design and maintain robust RESTful and GraphQL APIs.

- Lead refactoring efforts that improve performance, readability, and long-term maintainability of core systems.

- Build, deploy, and operate services on AWS, including Lambda and API Gateway.

- Write and maintain unit and integration tests to ensure reliability across releases.

- Critically review, validate, and improve AI-generated code rather than accepting it at face value.

- Identify technical risks, bottlenecks, and opportunities for improvement across the platform.

- Communicate technical decisions and trade-offs clearly in writing and through short video walkthroughs, and collaborate effectively across a remote, async-first, cross-timezone team

Who you are and what you’ll need for this position:

- 5+ years of professional backend engineering experience

- Expert-level PHP experience, including direct work on enterprise-grade, production systems.

- Strong backend experience with Node.js.

- Hands-on experience refactoring or decomposing monolithic architectures into modular services.

- Strong background in API design (REST and GraphQL) and backend architecture.

- Experience with AWS, particularly Lambda and serverless patterns.

- Experience writing testable code and maintaining automated test suites.

- Experience using AI coding tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Cursor) within IDEs such as VS Code or PhpStorm, including critically reviewing and refining AI-generated code.

- Fluency in English, written and spoken.

- Highly proactive and self-directed, with a proven ability to communicate effectively and unblock yourself in a remote, async-first environment.
